PCC: Tell us a little about yourself
JS: I am a jewellery designer based in the UK and I am celebrating 10 years of business this year.

JS:
I create a range contemporary acrylic
jewellery incorporating my own photographs, mostly of nature, which are hand printed on to each piece.

PCC: What made you want to become an artist/fall in love with your craft?
JS: I have always loved arts and crafts since a very young age, both my mother and grandmother taught me and let me make all sorts. I then continued to study and finally went to University to gain a BA hons in Jewellery, where I specialized in plastics.

PCC: Tell us about your process. What materials do you use?

JS: The pieces start as a flat sheet of acrylic. I cut then hand print each piece with my own images, then form the item. I then finish the jewellery with a process of handsanding then a combination of polished and matt surfaces that allow the images to refract in a unique way.

PCC: What else are you passionate about?

JS: I enjoy most creative crafts and create other items such as cards and drawing and printing as more of a hobby. To switch off I also love to bake and enjoy a little sport, to work off those cakes I've baked!!??

East Street Tins

Betsy Sio, Jewelry Designer

PCC:  Tell us a little about yourself

EST: My parents were makers: my mother worked with textiles and my father with wood. Fast forward through fine arts degree and many years of teaching middle school art, I took a workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts with Ellen Weiske on using unusual materials for jewelry making. After a week with textile, paper, plastic, rubber and wood, it was the tin that resonated with me. I went home and created a metals studio in my home.

PCC: What do you create?
EST: Using humble materials, I make mostly tin jewelry using traditional techniques.

PCC: What made you want to become an artist/fall in love with your craft?
EST: I love finding images on tin cans that spark an idea, the colors and the graphics can be wonderful.

PCC: Tell us about your process. What materials do you use?
EST:  My craft is all about the tin. I get tin dropped off on my porch, at garage sales and flea markets, olive oil cans from restaurants and from ethnic sections of grocery stores, I take the tin open them up and start cutting.
