La Solis

Lastenia, Jewelry Designer

Umbrella Earrings
PCC: Tell us a little about yourself.

LS: I am Lastenia , a crafty mother and furniture consultant, a dreamy girl who is passionate about the small details of daily life, I love to create things and devote spaces with an original twist.
My son has been coming with me on this adventure of life every day for 14 years and gives the magic touch to my existence ...
We live in a beautiful place located in a small town in the west of Austria, with two very naughty cats.

PCC: What do you create?

LS: My creations are outstanding, irregular, and singular, and have a unique charm, I make jewelry pieces for people who like to be different.
Each Piece has its own personality and they are all made with lots of energy, love and passion.
I make silver wire jewelry, mostly wrapped.
To do these pieces, I use materials that I find when I go out for a walk in the woods or the mountains, or bring something home from a trip, mostly beach-stones or shells and other magical things I am attracted to. I also use gemstones and polymer clay.

PCC: What made you want to become an artist/fall in love with your craft?
Spiral Drop Earrings

LS: I was lucky to grow up in a family of people who love life and nature, with much love and dedication to craft and work.
At an early age I discovered that my hands can feel and express emotions through the materials that are available to me in nature. The colors, the flowers, the sun, the moon - everything is like music to my eyes and inspiration for my hands.
The peace I feel when I'm doing a project is what gives me the certainty to continue doing so.

PCC: Tell us about your process. What materials do you use?

Designing
LS: To do my creations I usually use materials that I find in nature. I really like strange fusions, so I try to combine materials in pure or rustic style with details like river painted natural stones, gorgeous beach stones and shells, gems or polymer clay. I combine them myself with wire.
My favorite material is silver or copper wire. I most like the ease with which it can be molded and woven to give each piece a finish with an intense delicacy.

I am a spiritual person and believe in things like energy and love, so I look that fire, earth, water and air are always present in my creations, to form an original and unique magic.

PCC: Where do you sell your jewelry?
Spiral Drop Earrings
LS: I present my creations at weekly markets and am also dedicated to making custom creations for private customers and friends.
It was my family and friends who encouraged me to take a look at etsy, where I found an even more interesting way to open up to a lot more people.
My growth process is a little bit slow right now, but I have faith that everything will be okay. I started a couple of months with no idea how my small business would be, but etsy is giving me very good results, a lot more than I imagined ...

PCC: What are you passionate about outside of your art?

Silver and Amethyst Necklace
LS: I love simple things in life, I like to have breakfast with my son and talk about deep subjects for hours. I love gardening, mountains, sunsets, board games, good songs, our fireplace, cats, bikes, hiking, and being surrounded by people that warm my heart and put a smile on my face.
I would also like to travel around the world and see what else is out there: magic places, lovely people and many cultures.

PCC: Anything else we should know?

LS: Life is a wonderful gift, which is even better if you use your time on something creative and cultivate your skills in whatever you enjoy doing.

Hope you enjoy and thanks for stopping by my site !!

Guna Andersone

Guna Andersone, Photographer/Jewelry Designer

PCC: Tell us a little about yourself
Dancing Queens
GA: My name is Guna Andersone and I am originally from Latvia, but love brought me to the Netherlands. In Latvia I studied physics in the University of Latvia and after my studies worked as a junior researcher in the biomechanics, but after five years I decided to follow the studies in business. I started my studies in Latvia, but continued in Norway, in Norwegian School of Management. After my studies I returned to Latvia and found a work in Unilver. So the Dutch company, the Dutch boyfriend and I packed my luggage again. At the moment I work as a market analyst in an American company, but still I dream about my own art studio in combination with alternative recycled product gallery.
PCC: What do you create? What made you want to become an artist?
Good Morning
GA: As we all seek to find happiness and a sense of purpose in life, one day, I decided I wanted to achieve more for myself. I realized that my job was paying the bills, but yet was unfulfilling, and left my soul feeling empty. I decided to change that. I started making jewelry and decided to sell it on the website Etsy. I formed my own shop, called GunaDesign, and realized I needed to take lots of photos of my creations. And that is when I happened to fall in love with Photography and it was the birth of my Fine Art Photography. I don't particularly have one style, the object of my images, the environment, and even my mood determines the final result.

PCC: Tell us about your process. What materials do you use?

Amber Crochet Bracelet
GA: For my jewelry I use a lot of recycled materials, I try to give the second life for old denim, leather. I am a usual guest in the local thrift shops, flee markets, my friends and colleagues are my suppliers. I try to share my knowledge and experience by writing DIY tutorials. These are also available in my shop. When you are buying from me, you are buying not just an object. You are buying many hours of my time invested in this object. You are buying my failures and successes, days and weeks of frustration and joy. You are not buying only another handmade object, you are buying a moment of my life and to keep my work affordable, I avoid expensive materials- gemstones, gold. I believe every woman should be able to have nice fashionable items.

Music was my first love
GA: Cats, cats, good wine, French cheese, good movies and books, to search for urban decay places for alternative but not really salable photos.
One of my passions is to take my foreign friends to my beloved Latvia and to show them the beauty of this still unknown country.

Spatz Rosin Originals

Peg & Shannon - Jewelry Designers

Girl Dancing in the Rain
SR: We are a mother (Peg) and daughter (Shannon) team who enjoy working together whether it’s on the road at art and craft shows or designing jewelry. Shannon has always had a passion for jewelry. She inherited it from her father’s side of the family. I simply love working with my hands and designing jewelry gives me an outlet for that. Part of the joy we find in working with jewelry is the fact we can do it together.

Orchid Necklace
PCC: What do you create?
SR We design jewelry using the Viking stitch, knitting-in-the-round and wire wrap techniques. Shannon’s designs are more technical and classy with a touch of funk, while I work more intuitively and have the most fun designing R-kids and other free-form creatures. We love the rich colors wire now comes in as well as freshwater cultured pearls, gemstones and the faux bone flowers we are able to create using flat sheets of medical grade PVC.

My Family Girl

PCC: What made you want to become an artist/fall in love with your craft?
SR:
After an injury at work, my husband, Ken, was unable to work for a year. During that time we discovered we loved being together all the time. I also loved working with my hands and that drew us into the craft show business. We began with wooden toys, then miniatures and clay sculptures. Shannon’s first memories are of napping under our display tables at arts and craft shows when she was two.
We loved the satisfaction we got from customers reactions to our products and the relationships we developed with the other artists and crafters. We became like extended families having reunions every weekend. It was a wonderful life. After taking a short hiatus during my father’s illness and death, Ken and I got “real” jobs. Over time, Shannon and I wanted to get back into the business. Her passion for jewelry made the choice of what we would do this time easy.

PCC: Tell us about your process.
SR: Shannon is brilliant at working out ideas and patterns in her mind and then finding a way to make them come to life that is both technical and intuitive. She favors the Viking Stitch and wire wrapping. I can only work intuitively which plays well with designing the R-kids and other free-style forms. I love wire wrapping. It feels like coloring to me. First I create a form and then use the wire to, what I think of, as coloring in the lines like you would a coloring book.

PCC: What materials do you use?
SR: We use colorful craft wire as well as Soft-Flex ultra flexible wire with freshwater cultured pearls and gemstones. We also use medical grade flat sheets of PVC that we cut, shape and dye to create our floral embellishments. It’s a joy to have so many techniques
and materials at our disposal when it comes to creating unique designs. Over our down time this year, I’m hoping to do some clay sculpting to add to the uniqueness of our designs.

PCC: What are you passionate about outside of your art?
SR: (Peg) I love writing and am currently editing my first finished novel while Shannon is in the process of planning the expansion of her garden into a beautiful oasis that provides her with fresh produce to can for winter.
(Shannon) We both love to read, kayak, and fish. Mom and Dad live on the water and in the summer we love being out on the pontoon boat reading and fishing. I also love going mudding on the 4 wheelers!

PCC: Anything else we should know?
SR: Just that we feel lucky to be able to work with each other designing jewelry and selling at shows. Most of the time it feels more like fun than work, and what could be better than that?

PCC: Tell us a little about yourself
JS: I am a jewellery designer based in the UK and I am celebrating 10 years of business this year.

PCC: What do you create?
JS:
I create a range contemporary acrylic
jewellery incorporating my own photographs, mostly of nature, which are hand printed on to each piece.

Lavender Circle Pendant
PCC: What made you want to become an artist/fall in love with your craft?
JS: I have always loved arts and crafts since a very young age, both my mother and grandmother taught me and let me make all sorts. I then continued to study and finally went to University to gain a BA hons in Jewellery, where I specialized in plastics.

PCC: Tell us about your process. What materials do you use?

JS: The pieces start as a flat sheet of acrylic. I cut then hand print each piece with my own images, then form the item. I then finish the jewellery with a process of handsanding then a combination of polished and matt surfaces that allow the images to refract in a unique way.

Salmon Pink Flower Bangle
PCC: What else are you passionate about?

JS: I enjoy most creative crafts and create other items such as cards and drawing and printing as more of a hobby. To switch off I also love to bake and enjoy a little sport, to work off those cakes I've baked!!??
